8th grade SS Lab - 4/24/12

Go to the 8th Grade SS Lab Links and click on the "Hunger Games."  This will take you to two games: Trial by Fire and Tribute Trials.  Play both games and then return to the blog and reflect on the following questions:
1.  In the Trial by Fire, contestants test their abilities and see if they will be able to survive the real thing.  There is only one path to survival.  Did you survive?  Explain.  What decisions would you have changed?  Explain.
2.  Think you could survive a situation like the Hunger Games?  It takes more than just strength, or smarts, or stealth.  Take the Trials to see your likelihood of survival – then try to discover how you might improve your chances.  How did you do?  Explain your results.

  1. 1. In the Trial by Fire, contestants test their abilities and see if they will be able to survive the real thing. There is only one path to survival. Did you survive? Explain. What decisions would you have changed? Explain. no i didn't survive because i "died" every two seconds.

    2. Think you could survive a situation like the Hunger Games? It takes more than just strength, or smarts, or stealth. Take the Trials to see your likelihood of survival – then try to discover how you might improve your chances. How did you do? Explain your results. didn't survive again. Or it will say game over.

Explain. I got my stuff and headed to the woods but I went up a tree and a guy was going up it and I jumped down to attack him and I quickly knew I was surrounded and I died. What decisions would you have changed? Explain. I would have changed going up that tree.

Explain your results.I scored a 96% but I thought I did pretty good and I think I just missed one.

  3. 1. I did not survive. I followed a little girl and then her partner killed me from the behind. I wish I didn't follow the girl but i was hopeing to kill her.

    2. I Have a 74& chance of winning. That is kinda good i guess. I thought I made good choices but i guess didnt. I might have to stop trying to kill everyone I meet but It was a good idea.

  4. 1. No I did not survive. I made a few risky mistakes and failed to live. I would have changed my strategies and thought the problem over a little more carefully and chosen the better idea for the situation.

    2. I did good in the game. I was a little risky at some of my choices and was told i had a lot of skill and was very fast by some of the choices i had decided to make. I was not very good at staying alive and being able to survive.

  5. 1. I did not survive, i should have not made a fire because I got caught and cornered by other tributes. I also should have done more stealthy things to rather than just running into the open.

    2. In the Tribute Trails i got 78% I think the reason why i did so bad was that I chose the strength option most of the time. I should have chosen the more tactical or stealthy options.

  6. 1. In the Trial by Fire game, I died like really fast. If I was a real tribute, I would be a lot more careful and not make any decisions that could possibly get me killed.

    2. In the Tribute Trials game, I also died. I could maybe improve my chances by making smarter and safer decisions.

  7. 1.I did not survive. I would have changed instead of running in the forest I would have stopped and made a camp and not try to kill the person with the harpoon facing me I should have tried to hide.If i would have done those things i might have survived and won the Hunger Games.
2.I might be able to survive depending on my opponents. I got a 84% I "died" again. I died because I made some bad decisions.

  8. 1. No i didn't survive any of the times i tried. I tried to be as safe as possible while trying to use logic for survival. The only decision I would have changed would be staying in the forest for the night because the forest is really thin and there isn't much cover.

    2. I got a 90% and a 93% both times I tried. I think the only thing that kept me from surviving the games was that I let the person under the rock see my face. I think another thing that kept me from getting 100% is that there are so many variables that will affect survival that it is hard to put it into a computer simulation.

#1. I did not survive, there wasn't enough time to answer the questions. I would have changed the first decision about the taking the bow or not because they needed the bows to kill animals and use for weapons towards each other. And if you already had one its good to have an extra in case yours might break.

#2. I don't think i could survive the hunger games because it takes a lot of smart quick decisions. I did not do good, I picked a lot of risky decisions. I scored 92% in the red, I did not do well. I thought that game was pretty hard I don't think I could ever be in the hunger games.

  10. 1. In the Trial by Fire, I didn't survive. I chose the wrong answer for whether or not I would stay in the cave. I thought if the bear wasn't there, why not? It's good shelter. I would change my answer to move on because i still had energy so I could've found a farther location and found water.

    2. I got 88%. I don't know why I got that score. It said I showed a lot of vigilance and speed. Usually I just chose to run! It also said I was cunning and bold. I think I chose answers most people wouldn't choose. I think it means I'd do well in the games, it's basically saying you have to get 100% to survive obviously. Get one wrong and you're as good as dead, and that's how it is in the Games. One wrong move, and you'll pay for it.

  11. 1.
I didn't survive. I ended after six different spots then the game ended. If I could change something I would not eat the fish raw when the question asked if I would chance building a fire and cook my fish or eat the fish raw. I said to eat the fish raw and not risk the chance of people seeing my fire. I was obviously wrong and I should of cooked my fish.
    2.
I don't think that I could survive a situation like the Hunger Games. I think that the stress would get to me and I would not do well. In the Trails I got 94% of survival. I guess the test says that I would do well in the games, but I personally don't think I would do well. On my test I got a lot of things that showed my speed and it said I was cunning in a few of my answers also. Thankfully I won't ever be in this type of situation.

  12. 1. I didn't survive because i decide to help the dog and as we finding another place to go (a safer place) and it just randomly kills me that's why i didn't survive.
    2. I didn't survive I had got 82% and that wasn't good enough so it told me you did not make it.

  13. 1. I did not survive in the trail by fire because I wasn't fast enough. I wouldn't change any of my decisions because I think I made good decisions.
The only thing I would have changed would be my speed. If I would have thought more about my self I might have done better.

    2. I don't think I could have survived a situation like the hunger games. I didn't do to bad I got 92% but I ended up making bad choices in stealth and attacking an opponent. I think I should have done more self defense, and think more about myself because only one tribute can survive.

  14. 1. I didn't survive. My problem was that I went to sleep an was killed by someone who was hunting down the fox. I should have stayed more awake and aware of my surroundings.
    2. I scored 75% in the Tribute Trials. I'm surprised by this because I thought through my options before I answered. I apparently did something wrong but I think most of the time I answered right.

  15. 1. No I didn't survive because I ran out of time.also I decided to climb another tree and the person i befriended killed me so you can't trust any one. so i would not be friends with anyone in the games.
    2. i got 90%. And every time i was supposed to save some one I killed them. and most of the time i chose strength or stealthy.

  16. 1. I did not survive. I was not quick enough answering the questions and I ran out of time. I took too long to answer one of the questions. If I could change my way of answering the question I would just go faster and try not to think as much as I did, because when I over think things I get the answer wrong.

    2. I don't think I could survive the hunger games because I would not want to kill other people. I do not have much strength either. I got 99% at Take the Trials and lost. If I would have answered one of the questions different I think I would have passed with 100%.

  17. 1. i didnt survive because i lost all my time. The only thing I would have changed is going after the bow and arrow. I guess thet hurt me.
    2. My score was 87% so I lost. You must just have to be smarter.

  18. 1. I survived and I wouldn't change any because I survived. I tried to stay away from everyone.

2.No, I couldn't survive anything like the hunger games I would die right away. I did good and got 90% because I hid a lot and made the other tributes in danger by poisening their food and having bugs go to their camp ground.
