Weekly History and Geography - 23

Click the PBS: Africa for Kids link http://pbskids.org/africa/tale/index.html and read the Swahili folktale about PRINCE SADAKA.  To find his brothers, he has to complete three tests and YOU can help him.

When you are done, return to the blog and reflect on the WHAG activity by answering the following questions:  1.  Did you pass all three tests?  Explain.  2.  Does this story remind you of any other folktales/myths/legends you have heard or read?  Explain.  3.  Think of a time when you had to ask someone for help.  Did that person ever return the favor?  Explain.

  1. 1. Yes, I passed all three tests but I had to really think about the second and third tests. 2. This story reminds me of "Baba Yaga" - a Russian folktale. Especially the help provided to the protagonist by nature. 3. I try to help others as often as possible. Usually, those individuals will return the favor however some do not. Sometimes I find it difficult to help people who will not help me.

  2. Yes, I passed all three test. I found the last question the hardest but in the end I got them all. It reminds me of Joseph and the technicolor dream coat. It reminds me of that because Joseph "disappears"and his brothers come and find him. I help people when when I see that there is something that I can do,I try to help whenever I can. I help my mom all the time with yard work and dishes and she always helps me with my homework in return.

Sometimes I have to ask my mom for help with my homework, or my volleyball coach for help with my serves or skills. Usually they help me, most of the time I try my hardest to figure it out myself, then after I am positive I can't figure it out, then I ask for help. Then she got to married the prince. Most people return the favor when I help them.
