Welcome to Mrs. Woerner’s 7th and 8th Grade Social Studies! Seventh graders will focus on the Eastern Hemisphere (Africa, Asia, Australia, and Europe) from ancient civilizations to the present. Eighth graders will focus on United States' history from Revolution to Reconstruction. In addition to using course textbooks, we will also be using primary sources, activities, projects, videos, and readers’ theater to expand our understanding of history, geography, government, economics, and society.

"Across Five Aprils"FYI - BACKGROUND
Read Butternuts, Life on the Battlefield, All the Comforts of Home, and Ulysses S. Grant. The reflect on the following questions and respond on the blog. Make sure you proofread and make sure you "sign" your post (no anonymous).
1. Butternuts: Think of resources found in the Union, border states, and the Confederacy. Then, develop a nickname to reflect each region and explain why you created it.
2. Life on the Battlefield: Brainstorm names for temporary housing that might have been built during the Civil War. Create three and explain why they are worthy of the name.
3. All the Comforts of Home: Soldiers were very resourceful and invented what they needed out of necessity. Invent a comfort of home using canvas fabric, tree sap, and/or playing cards.
4. Ulysses S. Grant: Of all of Grant's achievements, what would you say is most important and why?

3. Which question (or questions) surprised you and what did you learn?
4. Did you feel the quiz was accurately leveled? Explain.

- What arguments did Stowe put forth against slavery?

- Women in the nineteenth century could not vote, so why did Stowe make a point of addressing mothers?

Candidates used slogans that reflected who they were, what that stood for, what they had accomplished, and/or what they hope to accomplish as President of the United States.
