Lastly, enlarge the "family eviction" photo and return to the blog to complete the following photo analysis and cartoon analysis.
1. Study the photograph to form an overall impression of the photograph as well as examine individual items.
2. Based on what you have observed, list 1 or 2 things you might infer/guess from this photograph.
3. What question(s) does this photograph raise in your mind?
4. How did Americans view Irish immigrants in the late 1800s/early 1900s? |
they were trying to guess if there any use to sociaty, they viewed them as intruders and they there equaly to the blacks and there saying there all dumb together.
ReplyDelete2.I would guess that the family in the picture is very poor, they even look like they don't have a house, it just looks like a pile if blocks
ReplyDelete3.The questions that pop into my mind is, why is the area they live in so dirty
4.Americans viewed Irish immigrants as dirty, poor, useless people who probably should be there
1. I can see that the people look very haggard and dirty, and there food is spread all over the ground, as if it was just thrown out the door. They also look very poor, their houses look abandoned, and they look very remorseful/sad.
ReplyDelete2. I can infer that these people are poor, and that they have little money. Also they have little clothes and sanitary conditions are bad.
3. It really makes me wonder how real "Americans" think they're better than the Irish. I mean they both came from the same place, didn't they? Also if the Americans never gave the Irish a chance, how are they supposed to make money to pay for their rent? It's just a never ending cycle.
4. The Americans viewed the Irish immigrants just about as poorly as the African Americans, they were very prejudiced.
real americans are DUMB!
ReplyDeleteI am guessing they are getting evicted and they are living in the yard.
ReplyDeleteWhy did they get kicked out? How many people got evicted?
Americans viewed them as weird, disgusting, and different.
2. That the Irish were to poor to keep their house. The people started at their house place area.
ReplyDelete3. Why did the U.K. take all the money and leave the Irish poor and still take the crops.
4. They viewed them as nonhuman. similar to the blacks but not as bad.
The people there have a very bad living because it is disusting they barly evenhave PLACE TO SLEEP!
ReplyDelete1.that their poor and have nowhere to go because their out side in the woods
ReplyDelete2.their laying on rocks and i see lots of people.
3.what their gonna do if their gonna sleep out side.
4.they didnt like them and didnt wont to be around them.
2.They tore their house down after they got evicted.
ReplyDeleteThey had a big family so it affected them a lot.
3.Who are those people who are standing by? (they look like they are from the military) Why are they all sitting on the ground together?
4.They treated the Irish equal to how they treated blacks and that was not a very fun way to be treated.
the people in the picture look mad and the ground looks like it has pieces of the house on the ground. Why are the landlords so mean about the houses? Why aren't the potatoes growing? People in society are saying that the Irish are at the same level as the blacks.
ReplyDelete1.From this picture you can tell that these people aren't in the healthiest living conditions. They are probably a sickly family. some people might be on the verge of death because of there living environment.
ReplyDelete2.Based from this picture you can infer that this picture you can tell that many people are cold, hungry and or poor. Even if they aren't homeless they don't have very good houses.
3.How old is this photo? What happened to this family? What is in the bottom left hand corner? Where is this photo taken? How did they feel when it was taken?
4.Americans views Irish immigrants in the late 1800s/ early 1900s poorly. I know this because in the picture it has a African American on a scale with an Irish person on the scale. They are at the same level. Now that show that they think poorly because in that time period people thought badly of African Americans too. And for them to be at the same level as African Americans says that they have little respect!
2. they are very poor and don't have very many belongings with them. they look mad or hungry but probably both.
ReplyDelete3.who is more descriminated against blacks or irish
4. they didn't want them to take all of the jobs
1.that their poor and have nowhere to go because their out side in the woods
ReplyDelete2.their laying on rocks and i see lots of people.
3.what their gonna do if their gonna sleep out side.
4.they didnt like them and didnt wont to be around them.
2) Once a family is evicted they will tear down the house.
ReplyDelete3) It makes me wonder how the Americans think they are gonna get more money if they're going around destroying whats giving them the money
4) The Americans hated all immigrants wether black, Irish, or any other kind of immigrant
1.Everyone looks unhappy and their house looks destroyed
ReplyDelete2.The people are obviously hungry and poor.
3.I wonder if those Irish people are considering moving to America.
4.In the late 1800's Irish people were not viewed very good but people lightened up on them a little in the 1900's
1.They look like there house burnt down.
ReplyDelete2.They look very poor.
3.If there house did burn down how did it happen.
4.They treat Irish slaves the same as black slaves.
1. Their Landlord kicked a family out of their house and set it on fire. They are very cold and are holding blankets on to them very tightly.
ReplyDelete2. Why were people so mean to people from other countries?
3. Americans viewed Irish immigrants as basically nothing. They made them pay unbelievable rent fees, they had little to no food,Americans refused to give them jobs, and they burned their houses down.
1.There are about fifteen people in this picture. They are standing by a house that has been demolished. They are wrapped in blankets, or anything that can keep them warm. There's no shelter, except for the still standing bricks of the house.
ReplyDelete2.They will probably not live very long after the eviction because of starvation. They might immigrate to America to find food and shelter.
3.How old is this photo? Did they live? Did they immigrate? Is the stuff on the ground like trash, or all bricks? Where did they take this picture?
4.Well, in this picture they put north, south, black, and Irish. I', guessing, the Americans treated Irish people like they did to black people. In this picture Black and Irish were equal...and that means they were both treated like slaves. They weren't equal to other people either.
