Post summaries of groups of people struggling for their rights throughout the United States and the world.  (What did you read about?  What rights are being denied?  How do you think the situation will be resolved?  Explain.)

39 comments:

  1. I read about a soldier for America who went a killing rampage in an Afghan village and killed 16 innocent people. The innocent people in Afghanistan are struggling for their rights because the good ones are almost always stereotyped as being a terrorist. They are resolving the situation by holding the man that went on the killing spree on trial. The charges he is facing are life in prison and possibly even death.

  2. I read about the Swiss bus crash that killed 28 kids. The rights being denied are mainly about how bus drivers should drive and having a say in applying seat belts in all buses.I Think that adults (especially) parents should get involved since there children's lives are in the drivers hands. But i think the parents rights are being denied for getting the seat belts for children's safety. And if this situation was going to be resolved I think it is going to be up to mainly parents and the school district to let the government know. And this hasn't been the only one that's happened, even this past year! So I it would be very important to install seat belts. If the bus DRIVER gets one, the kids should for sure have one too.

  3. I read about Googles new privacy settings and how attorney generals think that is envasion of privacy. Google is putting all there policys in one and makeing it easy for people. They are saying Google is doing this for money. I don't care about the problem I don't have Google account so Im good.

  4. I watched a video about this dude getting tortured by soldiers in Syria. His rights were being denied because we were beating him with a stick.. :( I don't think that the situation will ever be resolved because yeah I just don't think they will be able to do anything back to us. I guess that soldiers have been beating many people with sticks and they are starting to do stuff about it and saying they want them in prison.

  5. 1.I read about the freedom of press in Myanmar.
    2. The rights that are being denied are the freedom of press. They say that the press has never been free in Myanmar.
3.I think the situation will be resolved with a fine to The Voice (a newspaper) for the "false" allegations about the Generals office and everything will go back to normal after that.

  6. I read about how China passed a new law saying they can hold anyone that is suspected to be threat to national security in a secret location for up to six months. The rights that are being denied are that the government is to powerful and they are not given a lawyer or a public trial. the only thing they are given is the right to tell their family they are being held but not where they are or for how long and that any evidence achieved through torture cannot be used in a trial. I think the situation will be resolved when China's government gives up some power and restricts the power of the police and give more rights to the people

  7. I read "China Passes New Law Allowing Secret Detentions" on CNN. I read about the people in China. The police are aloud to arrest people and put them in detention, but they have to tell the family that they are in detention. They don't have to tell where they are, or how long they will be there. The families of the people getting in detentions are losing there rights of knowing where that family member is, and how long they'll be there.

  8. I read about interior officials testify on energy development budgets.
The rights that were being denied were that of energy development programs also wishing for a 164.1 million dollar 3.3 million increase then a 222.2 million dollar24.8 million increase.
This could of been resolved by accepting that but lower then the request, because if they don't want to give that money they could lower that making every one happy with that instead of arguing over if they should or not.

  9. There are many people being cut from there jobs because Obama wants to turn the economy around. I read "Is Obama Turning the Economy Around." People are being denied the right to vote and see if people really want him to do this. I think is situation will not be resolved. I think he will just change the Economy and not ask anyone what they want to do about it.

    I read about Joseph Kony
Rights that are being denied are the children are being captured and forced to be a soldier.
I think the situation will be resolved by the U.S.They will get involved in it to help the children be free.

  11. I read about Steve Nunn who got married and divorced 3 times, and each time he became a little bit crazier. His dad was the governor and Nunn was a legislator before his reputation took over his career. When his third wife fell for him, they were happy at first but he then became violent and the marriage eventually ended and Amanda Ross, his ex-wife, got a restraining order on her. Nunn became very obsessive and angry and started stalking Ross. One day he finally went to her house and as she walked out the door to go to work, she was shot. This took a long process to get Nunn into jail. But after police had enough evidence, justice was served and Nunn went to jail.

  12. I read about the Tsunami hitting Japan about a year ago. I think they are being denied the right of general welfare. The nuclear power plant that contaminated many of their homes, land, and food was not keeping them safe, and I think the situation can be resolved by good government planning, and also smart decisions on the people's half. It may also be a good idea for the people of Japan to step up and say that they deserve to live back where they used to before the tsunami. I also think that they all deserve houses, as many of them are living in temporary shelters, the government has not yet told of a plan to fix the coast of Japan.

  13. I read about Panetta a Pentagon official working on going into Afghanistan to talk to Afghan officials about the U.S. taking over Afghan governmental security control and to have meetings with the president about what we have done that has denied them of there rights. Such as the soldiers that were burning the Muslim holy books including Qurans, and also the video posted in January of U.S. soldiers urinating on Muslim corpses. He had called a meeting in a U.S. military base inviting any and all U.S. soldiers willing to attend and any and all Muslim Afghan government officials to apologize about what has happened in the last few months and also stressing that it was not under United States Military jurisdiction. No weapons were allowed in this tent from any soldier or Muslim, all had to be left outside, which some U.S. soldiers said that they have never seen this done before. Panetta said "I did this because I wanted to make sure that the Muslim officials were comfortable and could see I was serious about what I said"

  14. The people in Uganda have been in a war for many years and children are being kidnapped to fight for the warlord's armies. They have also been struggling with starvation and torture for as long as the war has been going on. I think the only way to end is to let the fighting end itself.
The people in Syria have been waged war on for their protests of the government. Innocent people are being beaten and tortured for no reason and without mercy by soldiers. Syria is also having oil fires due to the government's reaction to world interaction. As with Uganda, the rebels are a hard people to stop and previous efforts to stop them were futile. In syria, the people either need to stop or the world will step in.
The Japanese people have just suffered another earthquake off the east coast and are still dealing with hunger from the last disaster.

  15. I read about the Chinese people and their secret detentions. A law was passed saying that police can hold suspects secretly for up to six months. For many years, China is known for detaining people secretly, and illegally in "black jails." To resolve this, they settled at telling the suspects' family that he/she is being secretly held, but is not required to say where or how long they will be held. I think this is a some-what good resolution, but should be illegal.

  16. I read about the Afghanistan war. It has surpassed the Vietnam war for the longest war in U.S. history. One specific shooting in Afghanistan was an American soldier went on a killing spree. The soldier went house-to-house killing every member of that house or who was in it. They did it to two whole villages. The president of Afghanistan calls this act of violence a "unforgivable" crime.

  17. I read that many schools are now using getting a drivers license as an incentive to stay in school and get better grades. So if they get bad grades and bad attendance they may not get a drivers license. I think that it's not a good decision because I think students should be allowed a drivers license if they can pass the test. I think there are other kinds of incentives and punishment for good grades and bad ones. I don't think this will spread throughout the world or US, just a few schools.

  18. I read about a fight breaking out in Afganisthan. The military has detained an Army staff sergeon from the Military even after they surrendered. Even after surrendering, they still detained the surgeon. In the military, there's going to be fights breaking out so It's not exactly bad unless they killed an innocent person on purpose for no reason. If there on the other "side" or team, and there's a war then it's fine. I think it could be resolved by not starting random fights, keep the fighting for war.

  19. I read about Kony and he takes kids from there homes and forces them to kill. he rapes the girls. they are having to live in fear. i think that America should send troops in and stop it because nobody should have to live fear or be forced to kill.

I also read about a lady that was blamed for murdering her child and she had blood on her hands she also was not able to sleep because she was taking hidroqsia. she is being denied that she is the prim suspect before they get any one else that could have done it.i think she did it because she had the blood on her hands.

  20. I read an article about the shooting spree of the Afgahns. An American soldier killed people who weren't even involved in the violence. He just killed innocent people who were doing nothing wrong. A lot of the people are really innocent there and they just get their bad name from the few bad people and terrorists there.
There was also something else that talked about how someone rode by on a motorcycle with a bomb in it and the bomb exploded killing some people.

  21. I read about how Obama is proposing a new trade deal with China. The rights of fair treatment are being denied. The United States is being given a disadvantage in the trading business because of the current situation. I think the situation will be resolved when the United States and China finally make a fair deal. So that we can get the rare minerals that we need to make hybrid cars, and other mechanical devices. The situation will be resolved because if we make a fair deal. Then both the United States and China will benefit from the deal.

    1. I read about Keep on Movin' the right that was to get kids to live a healthier lifestyle. I think it is going to be resolved by parents to help their kids to get more active.:)
    2. That in Oregon farmers found that there were raising fish native to that area in the winter because the winter is a really wet season there. i think they are going to resolve this problem by getting the fish back to the ocean.
    3. i read about how schools are needing more teachers and that they are being denied the teachers and education the kids need. I think that the teachers are going to fight it until they get more teachers.

  23. I read that Syrians have a group of a dozen Syrians traveling across the country. They have been denied the right of freedom. The group calls itself the Marie Colvin Convoy for Freedom in Syria, they are now in Chicago. The group was singing the Syrian national anthem with local Syrian-Americans in Chicago. The group will arrive in Washington. Dalati was born in Syria and moved to the U.S. when he was 18. He has family members in Syria and he says four of his cousins have been killed there. I think that maybe the will go to court and take a test to become a free citizen and like in the U.S. with freedom and equal rights.

A milestone was reached today, March 11th, when the Marie Colvin Convoy for Freedom in Syria arrived to cheering supporters in Chicago, IL, the national headquarters for the Syrian American Council (SAC). A number of caravan activists belong to local SAC-chapters in cities along the convoy’s route. Individuals have been driving in shifts since the departure from Los Angeles three days prior. The mileage thus far is equivalent to 12 trips between Damascus and Aleppo. Video credit - Belal Delati

  24. I read about the U.S. soldier who killed 16 Afghanistan citizens(most women and children). The citizen's rights of safety were denied. He had no reason to kill them because they were innocent and 9 of them were helpless children. I think the soldier should be tried in Afghanistan and in the U.S. because then both countries would work together to get a conviction. It would be fair to our rights of trial and fair to Afghanistan and the families.

  25. I read about the 3 year old boy who shot himself in the head with a firearm while his parents were in a convenient store. His sister was in the car with him, but she didn't get injured. Maybe the second amendment is not such a good thing after all.

I read that an American soldier was to be trialed for supposedly killing 16 Afghan civilians by an American court, not an Afghanistan court. John Kerry and John McCain said that he should be tried in Afghanistan while most everyone else will want it in the U.S. Sources say that the soldier slipped away and broke in to their houses and killed 16 civilians, mostly women and children. The soldier suffered a brain injury in Iraq but was cleared for combat in Afghanistan. They said it was probably too soon to send him back and he just went out of control and didn't know what he was doing. The case is being conducted by the Army. People also say it was combat stress that led to the killings. They are not entirely sure.

  28. I read about the strong earthquake in japan on Wednesday. a strong earthquake hit the northern of japan, and three days later of the one-year anniversary of the earthquake and the tsunami that killed a thousand people. from that it triggered the world's worst nuclear crisis in the quarter century.

  29. I read about the Marines and the Afghan soldiers who had to be disarmed for Panetta's speech. All Marines and Afghan soldiers should never be disarmed especially when someone as important as the U.S. Secretary of Defense is present. This order came just days before the attack on 16 innocent Afghan people, which killed nine children and three women. The Afghans were asked to also disarm, not because the U.S. Marines did, but because they didn't want to treat them differently. If they are an ally to us, we should treat them like family and not terrorists. They are helping us and we should help them back. Give them equal rights.

  30. 1.I read about Uganda about Kony 2012. The Ugandians want Kony out.I watched a video about Ugandians watching Kony 2012. They said, that it should focus on the victims more.
I also read about Romney not funding Planned Parenthood as much. Then Democrats fight back saying
    2. it helps single moms.Romney also wants to get rid of Obamacare if he becomes preisdent.
3.I also read about Iran's Nuclear plants. The tensions between nations is becoming tighter. Iran is saying it isn't backing down.

  31. I read about Hanson asking Awlaki if it was okay to kill American military personals. Hanson had originally killed 13 people in the Fort Hood shooting. According to Islamic law it was okay for him to ask those questions in his emails. So Hanson can't be charged for asking those questions, but he is charged for the killings in Fort Hood. I think he should be prosecuted for attempted murder. Even though he didn't get committed for the emails he sent he should because if they didn't find those emails, and then he had killed a military personal I think a lot of people would have gotten into trouble.

I read about how the sea lever threatens homes 4 million Americans. The climate change is over 100 years. The say it could rise over 1 meter. Also that it will be like no other flooding you have ever seen before. The people might be forced out of there houses. They said there was no way to fix it. at Florida making a sea wall would be impossible.

  33. 1.I read about the 3 year old bod that shot himself in the back seat of a car while they were at a gas station and his dad was pumping gas and his mom went inside the gas station. Before his dad got out he put the pistol under the seat and got out of the car.The parents left there son and infant in the car and the boy crawls out of his seat and grabs the gun and shoots himself.Washington does not have a law concerning child access to fire alarms.
2.The rights that are being denied are that parents/people are aloud to have guns with permit and carry them around where ever.
3.This situation could be resolved by not letting parents leave the kids in the car by there self and not have permission to carry around any guns even if you have a permit.

  34. I read about a 3 year old boy who shot himself in a car. There have been other shootings by children younger than 10, at home, in school, and other places. Twenty-Seven states have formed a law that prevents children from firearms access.

I also read about how Mexican "bosses" were using U.S. adolescent kids as a way to smuggle drugs into Mexico. These "bosses" kidnapped the teenagers and made them do work, tasks, and other things. These people took away the teenagers right of freedom.

I read about how George Clooney went to Sudan and was troubled by the fact that people were bombing villages. People who are bombing these villages are being prejudice just because of someone's color of skin. They are terrorists.

I read about a boy who was spying on his gay roommate using cameras and intimidating him. His roommate killed himself jumping off a bridge. Reporters say Dhuran Ravi's intentions were because of his roommates sexual orientation. Ravi broke the law. He took away his roommates rights by searching through his personal items without permission, warrant, etc.

  35. I read about a bus crash in Sion, Switzerland. The bus was holding 52 people, two drivers, four adults, and 46 children. 6 adults and 22 children died. The rights being denied for them was the right of being safe, of having protection. Though the rescue/cops do not know what happened, but I suspect the bus drivers were not doing there job and paying a attention to driving. I figure that they will eventually find out what happened, tell the parents, and soon the case will be forgotten by many people. I think this because that is what usually happens for something like this case.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I read about an article that was saying that there is a group of people that is trying to treat drugs like they treat drinking problems. Most people go to prison for drugs and they want to prevent that but if they put certain drugs in stores and put an age limit on it then there would be even more students or under the age of 21 trying to get the drugs and that hurts there health. That is another problem that they have is many accidents or health problems consist of drugs or achole.
I also read about the shooting of the 17 year old boy in Florida and it happened when he was at a convenience store and he saw a man that was curious so he called 911 but by the time the police got there he was laying dead with a gunshot in his chest. The man is not under a legal obligation as a call taker so they can't charge him that considering that is what they had wanted to do. But it is the parents rights to go to court about the situation.
I also read about the very strong earthquake that hit Japan Wednesday. I twas 170 miles off the East coast. There was reported that there was no immediate damage that was done.

  37. I read about the American soldier who killed 16 people. I think that he should be tried in a military court and taken out of the army. What he did was wrong but they thought he was okay to go back to Afghanistan. They should wait longer before they send soldiers back to a war zone to try to keep things like this from happening again. But the army didn't know he would do anything like this so the soldier is the one responsible for his actions.

  38. I read about the Obama Movie that comes out tomorrow. The movie was just about what his struggles were, and what he accomplished over this four year term. The movie is narrated by Tom Hanks and has Bill Clinton and Joe Biden in it to talk about Obama's successes in his first term. The article also said that a lot of Americans aren't going to be happy about the movie and a lot of people will be really happy with the movie. It just depends on their view of Obama.

I also read the story about the sales clerk and Radio Shack that put a nasty note on Shenane Lewis's receipt because of her tattoos for her dead son who died for SIDS, and her dead mother who died ten months later. Shenane is from a different country, so the clerk was highly racist toward her.
