Research and Writing Skills - Compare Primary Sources
As you learned in Chapter 10, primary sources are "snapshots" of history. They are created by people who were there at the time of the event. On p. 472-473 in your Social Studies textbook, you will need to read the What, Why, and How about two primary sources; the English Bill of Rights and the U.S. Constitution. Then, answer the "Think and Apply" questions 1-3 on p. 473 on the blog.

3. I have learned that both the colonists and the english wanted the same things we did. I also learned that there was a little bit of copying. The two documents sound quite similler.

ReplyDeleteThe welfare and safety of the people, the blessings of liberty, they both have the idea of getting the attention of the king and/or queen so they can list their rights.
2)To whom are these documents addressing?
It is addressed to the leader or monarchy or king or queen.
3)Summarize what you have learned by comparing these two primary sources?
They are both people wanting freedom and better conditions. They are also much different they both I am guessing want different things but the things they want are very similar.

3.I have learned that England wanted to be a constitutional monarchy and John Locke inspired the American colonist to form ideas about self-government and the colonist "borrowed" ideas from the Enlightenment and the English bill of rights.

3. I learned that when you want something, you have to use a little help from pre-written sources to make a good stand. You also have to send it to the right people.

3. The English wanted to limit the power of monarchy, so they used the main points of the Magna
Carta to write the Bill of Rights. The colonists borrowed ideas from the Enlightment as well as the English Bill of Rights to help write the constitution.

ReplyDelete2. I think that the constitution was addressed to England, and the bill of rights was addressed to the christians from the protestants.
3. I have learned that the English did not give their citizens equal rights, and the people wanted to form a new land where they could do whatever they want and it would be fair. Everyone would be equal. I also learned that the english used different wording then we do, such as "doth" we would say "does", I learned that constitution probably copied some ideas from the bill of rights, and learned how to compare two primary sources with each other.

ReplyDeleteWe the people want to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, etc. to ourselves... and establish the constitution.
2.This is directed toward the king of England because the people of the colonies and the British want freedom and more power.
3.With the Constitution and the Bill of rights, the people stated that they no longer wanted to be fully ruled by the King of England. The Colonies also took many ideas from the Bill of Rights which they took from the Magna Carta.

1.The word doth means does and that the English Bill of Rights is from (1689) and the U.S. constitution was from (1787).

3.What I've learned is that the English Bill of Rights and the Constitution of Independence are the same in one way.
